15.000 CDs produced including a song by Mark Pwllheli

The title track of Take Me To The Stars was published on the Stars in Sight CD in late 2001. The CD was sold with the last 2001 edition of the Musiker Magazine. 15.000 CDs were produced, which was the largest number of CDs ever sold with a Mark Pwllheli song on it.

Prototype Presentation in Bonn

This year's "Deutsche Rock- und Popmusiker Messe 99" took place in the Beethovenhalle in Bonn. Mark had already booked a stall earlier this year, as the CD release date had been anticipated for autumn 99. Mark had also handed in a demo CD with "Blue Wizards" as a contribution to the "Songpreis 99" competition. In late October it became clear that the CD release date had to be postponed, so Mark was not sure whether it would be worth going to the fair - there wouldn't be a lot to present. Finally, Mark decided to go. He prepared a demo CD with three songs on it, took his CD player and some other paraphernalia and left for Bonn in the afternoon of Saturday, November 20th. He arrived at his hotel at about 5pm, so there was some time left to go and have a first look at the MPMUSIC stall.

Mark left his hotel on Sunday morning at 8:30. It was a cold but sunny day, and there was some time left to take a walk and some photos of the Beethovenhalle from a bridge over the river Rhine.

Beethovenhalle                 Fair
Beethovenhalle Bonn Rock- und Popmusiker-Messe 99

The fair opened around 10am. Mark only prepared some parts of the stall, as he had to join the "Songpreis 99" competition at 10:30. "Blue Wizards" was played as the second contribution this morning. The jury consisted of five members from the music industry. Some of them made a comment on the song when it was over. Bernhard Mantei, from Wetzlar, said the song sounded rather English (Mark took this as a compliment), the orchestration was considered to be witty and sensitive. Joachim Alter, from Dead Horn Music Mainz, said it was interesting as this was the first song handed in written in six-eight time, the voices and the song structure were considered to be average, but properly done. Angela Böcker-Thöne, from Entercom-Saures Records, said, the song was very melodious, both voices very soft, the female voice was considered to belong to the musical genre; she found the song was superficial but properly done, the beginning was quite interesting. The song was given a C. Mark was a little disappointed about the decision. He could accept the criticism, he said, but he found the mark was too bad compared with the marks for other songs.

The MPMUSIC stall opened at around 11am. A prototype of the new album with three songs was presented. Mark had some interesting talks with agents from the music industry, e.g. from EMI, but also with other musicians, e.g. the "Musical Company" from Bremen.

Stall                 CD Prototype
Mark Pwllheli Music Stall CD Prototype

After all, the fair was less interesting from the number of CDs that might have been sold, as there had been only few potential buyers; the more interesting aspects were the new ideas, impressions, technical stuff and tips from specialists which Mark received during the stay.

Work on "For You My Love" finished

The time in September and October was used to finish the recording and mixing of "For You My Love", which is the third song on the new album. Mark had to sing his parts again, as the recordings that had been made earlier turned out not to meet the quality standards. The song seemed to be easy to sing, but turned out to have some really difficult parts when trying to do it properly. The mixing also turned out difficult: Mark's voice and the playback were comparably easy to mix down, but Judits voice was hard work, as the equalizing was really tricky. But finally, shortly before Sarah's birthday, the song was completely finished, so Mark was able to give Sarah a demo CD for her birthday. The song is dedicated to Sarah.

CD "Handel - Messiah" produced

As a short interlude, a CD production "Handel - Messiah" was made in November. Mark had earlier made the acquaintance of Frank Oidtmann, an organist and conductor from Stuttgart. He had conducted a concert in November, which had been recorded on digital tape, so he asked Mark to make a CD out of the material. Mark worked two weeks on the material, and finally the production of a double CD with cover and inlay was launched. The CD was released at December 18th as a Christmas release, it is a live recording of "Handel - Messiah".

Work on Title Track Continuing

In December, Judit Saròn came to the MPMUSIC studio one last time to improve some bits and pieces of the title track. Mark managed to cut and mix Judit's parts by the end of the year. As already mentioned with "For You My Love", Mark's singing of the title track also has to be redone. Mark's singing and the final mix are the last pieces of work needed to finish the title track.

Album Release Date

As mentioned above, the title track still needs some of Mark's singing. Mark is planning to finish his singing and cutting in February. The final mix of all songs is scheduled for March. Premastering and the finishing of the print material is planned for April. So, if everything works out, the CD production will be in late April. This means that the album release date can be expected some time in May.

Work on Final Song Finished

After the six best background singers had been chosen in January this year, the contract talks turned out to be difficult. One of the singers expected a salary far beyond the project's limits, three others decided not to take part when they were shown the task. Only two male singers, Michael Kappler and Ralf Kürten, finally wanted to join in, so another approach had to be taken to find some more singers. Two female singers, Susanne Böhringer and Ingeborg Haßler, and one male singer, Karlheinz Hetzinger, were found with the help of Mrs. Helga Merkl-Freivogel, Mark's singing-teacher. Finally, Wiebke Huhs, who had taken part in the Nürtingen event last year, completed the crew. Thus, the start of the practising and recording sessions was delayed. Mark had decided to record the chorus lines individually for each member. This decision was made to reduce production cost and risk, yet required more cutting and mixing time. The MPMUSIC studio does not allow the recording of six individual voices at the same time, first because there isn't enough space in the studio for six singers, but also for technical reasons. The only alternative would have been to rent a big studio, with the risk of someone getting ill shortly before the date and the need of a second or a third expensive approach. Therefore, all the practising and recording sessions were done individually for each member. The sessions started in early March and ended in mid-May. The cutting and mixing was done parallely and was finished at the end of May.

The work on the guitar parts for the final song started in mid-May. Mark had two meetings with Taner Tuna, the guitar player, to prepare the recording sessions, and Taner needed some time to excercise, so the recording sessions could only start in the middle of June. Three recording days were needed. The recordings were finished at the end of June, and the cutting and mixing work was done a few days later.

After all the recording work on the final song was finished, some improvement of parts of the vocal tracks were needed. Mark re-recorded some of his singing recently, and Judit had to improve one of her parts as well. After this had been done, the final mix had to be made, which took another three weeks. Mark had to listen to the track over and over again, changing bits and pieces, eliminating clicks, modifying equalizer and fader parameters and checking the results on various tape recorders. Finally, on August 15th, the final mix was released.

Some Improvement Needed

There is one previously recorded song which needs some improvement of Mark's singing. This was the result of a mixing and cutting session that took place recently. Some older material doesn't fit to later recordings, so the song must be sung again completely. This means a delay in the production process, but a compromise in quality can't be accepted, as Mark said. The recording session is planned for the beginning of September after Mark's summer holiday.

Cover Design Revised Again

After two unsuccessful approaches to find an appropriate cover design for the new album, a decision was made one week ago, when Mark received the proposals from his third cover designer, Lutz Suendermann. Lutz handed in four drafts. Mark's decision was clear very soon, as one of the four designs was quite outstanding with several advantages: It suits the music, can easily be used for merchandising material, and makes the product look precious. None of the other eight designs had united all these qualities. The booklet is being designed these days, and all the technical co-ordination with the production plant is being done.

U.K. Music Business Investigated

Mark went to England at the end of October 1998 to see Sarah de Costobadie, the lyrics supervisor of the new album. Mark arrived in Stoke-on Trent on October 28th, which was Sarah's birthday. Sarah had invited a couple of friends, Mark amongst them, and they all had a great party. During the following few days, Mark and Sarah went shopping in the city of Stoke, and Mark also did some investigation work on British music business. He received some valuable information on how to enter the British music scene from a friend of Sarah's who works at the BBC in London.

Title Track Recordings Continued

When Mark arrived back in Germany on November 1st, the work on the new album immediately continued. Judit came back into the studio to sing some final parts of the title track. The refrain had not been recorded yet, and some parts of Judit's material had to be re-recorded. When Judit's recordings were finished, Mark immediately started cutting and mixing the tracks, and also prepared the guitar recording sessions with Taner Tuna. The two met on November 20th for some preparation work, and the recording sessions started on November 30th. This time they only needed one more session to complete, which took place one week later. Mark managed to cut and mix the material before christmas and sang parts of his own material over christmas. Unfortunately, Mark cought a cold shortly before New Year's Eve, so the recording work had to be interrupted. It will be continued in January.

Work on Final Song Started

Mark started a newspapers advert series in December, looking for some background singers for the final song of the new album. During the time while the adverts were published, about twenty male and female singers answered the ad, and Mark asked them to send in some demo material. When all the material had arrived, the six best singers, two female and four male singers, could easily be sorted out. Now Mark is looking for an adequate place for the background chorus recording session, which will take place some time in February. Mark is preparing the score and playback material these days, both for Judit and the background singers and for the guitar session. Mark is planning to complete the song by March 1999.

Cover Design Revised

Mark had some talks with two marketing and product managers last December. He showed them the cover drafts that had been made so far. Mark was not completely pleased with the results, although in some parts the designs were not too bad. Mark and the managers agreed that there was some improvement to be done. This means that some more time is needed for the cover design, but Mark hopes that some satisfying results can be reached by the time when the recording work is finished.

Work on Freddie Project Started

Sarah de Costobadie visited Germany one month after Mark's stay in England. The two met at Mark's home at the end of November to do some more work on the music material. They completed the lyrics of the final song for the new album and also did all the lyrics of "Freddie On Stage", the CD release which is planned for the 10th anniversary of Freddie's death in November 2001.

New Album Financing Secured

Mark Pwllheli Music was offered a homepage design project in December 1998. Although the album project is not in time, Mark agreed to do the project as the income secures the new album financing. The project is nearly finished now, and there is only some minor work left to be done.

Promotion Tour Started

Mark Pwllheli's promotion tour for the new album started at the fashion show "En Vogue d'or" in Nuertingen last night. Mark Pwllheli and Wiebke Huhs presented two songs from the new album - "There's No-one Who Can Save My Life" and "Take Me To The Stars"- the latter also being the title of the new album. "We had an absolutely great start", Mark said. "Things couldn't have gone better. Everything went as planned, the audience was brilliant, the lightshow and effects worked properly, and Wiebke sang better than ever. I'm very happy and I hope the rest of the tour will be as good as its start". Unfortunately, the new album couldn't be sold because of a delay in production as mentioned in the last Mark Pwllheli Music News, but the recording work of the last songs is going on at present.

CD Release Date Postponed

It has now become official that the release date of the new album was postponed by Mark Pwllheli Music until January 1999. Although Mark had always been optimistic about a release date in September 98, it has now turned out that there is still too much left to be done. "I had expected to complete the recording work on three more songs by the end of August, but due to technical problems as well as health problems the sessions didn't go on as anticipated. There is still one more song to be recorded after these, and I'm thinking about inviting another singer to take part in this final song; additionally, the song also has some guitar and chorus parts in it, and that will take at least two months of recording. To take away some pressure from the project, I decided to complete all the recording work by the end of the year and then start the promotion tour in 1999. We wouldn't have been able to do a lot of promotion this year anyway, as we didn't have much time for preparation. I hope those who were looking forward to a release date in the near future aren't too disappointed. I didn't want to let the quality of the recordings suffer from time constraints but am looking forward to the new release date in January.", Mark said.

MPMUSIC U.K., New Internet Address, and Fax Number

Sarah de Costobadie visited Germany in the beginning of August. Mark and Sarah now proudly present the foundation of a Mark Pwllheli Music division in the United Kingdom as a further step into global music business. Chief Executive will be Sarah de Costobadie, the name of the company will be "Mark Pwllheli Music U.K.".

Due to the forthcoming album promotion in autumn 1998, MPMUSIC have installed a new MPMUSIC World Wide Web server with a name that can easily be remembered: The MPMUSIC homepage can now be accessed via www.mpmusic.de, and there are three EMail addresses that can be used: service@mpmusic.de for customers, fanclub@mpmusic.de for fans, and business@mpmusic.de for business.

Furthermore, there is a new international fax number for MPMUSIC:
+49 40 3603 068642. Faxes can be sent to this number 24 hours a day.

"Blue Wizards" Recordings Completed

After an exhausting series of recording sessions, the recording work on "Blue Wizards" has now come to an end. The recording sessions with Taner Tuna, the guitar player, had started on July 13th. After a day of hard work it turned out that at least one more session would be necessary as some parts still had not been recorded. To cut a long story short, five recording sessions were needed after all, due to various problems, and when Taner had eventually finished his guitar parts, Mark needed another 3 days for mixing down the tracks to the final version. 1.5 GBytes of disc space had finally been recorded. Mark was pleased with the results. "It was a very hard piece of work", he said, "but it was worth it. The quality of music and recording techniques are brilliant." Thanks a lot, Judit, Taner and Dietmar, for your contributions - the song will surely be one of the outstanding pieces of work on the new album.

Recording Sessions Continuing

But much remains to be done before the release of the new album. Shortly before leaving for her summer holidays, Judit Saròn had popped in at the MPMUSIC studio to record the title track of the album and one further song following the title track. Mark is now about to sing his parts; he hopes to finish the recordings of these two and one further song by the end of August. Then, finally, one final song is to be recorded at the beginning of September. Mark still hopes to be on time with everything, although some things required more time than he had expected.

MPMUSIC admission to the GEMA as a publishing house

The GEMA have authorised MPMUSIC as a publishing house by contract subscription on August 7th, 1998. MPMUSIC is now an official publishing house, backdated from January 1st, 1998. MPMUSIC is going to publish all scores of the works on the new album.

Re-release of "Freddie on Stage" in 2001

Due to the 10th anniversary of Freddie Mercury's death in November 2001, Mark Pwllheli Music is planning a re-release of "Freddie on Stage". Although it still seems quite a long way off, a lot of copyright and technical problems as well as marketing strategies must be dealt with in advance before production work can start. The lyrics of the song will be changed in some parts, and Sarah de Costobadie is the lyrics co-writer. The release of the single in the U.K. and Germany is scheduled for September 2001.

Photo in Backnanger Kreiszeitung

On June 14th, Mark arrived at Stuttgart Airport at 4pm, just in time to meet Judit Saròn. They both rushed to the Backnang Competition, where they arrived at 5pm. The event had started at 3, but there was still enough time to relax a while, to put on some make-up and to sing a few lines together. The stage preparation went quite well and, when they started their song, the band played perfectly, too. The only disadvantage was that no sound-check or rehearsal with the band had been possible in advance. The monitor boxes turned out to be too low. Judit couldn't hear her own voice on stage, and Mark didn't hear the band loudly enough, therefore it was rather difficult to control their own performance. Additionally, Mark hit one wrong note on the piano, and sang a line which should have been Judit's. Afterwards he said he couldn't concentrate, the day had been too exhausting. The performance was not too bad, though it could have been better. The advantage of an unknown song is that a jury usually doesn't know it either, thus mistakes are not apparent on the first listening. On the other hand, such songs don't amaze the audience very much, as they usually like to hear well-known material. It was not a big surprise when the two received the result three days later saying that they hadn't passed for the final competition. They were disappointed, anyway. Mark was a little happier another two days later when he received a photo of himself that had been published in the Backnanger Kreiszeitung. The photo shows him playing the grand piano.

CD Cover Design Completed

Mark met Benno from BM Werbung on June 18th and was shown the design for the cover of the new album. Mark was amazed by what had been produced, and some details about the booklet were also fixed that day. Mark hasn't told me the details yet, as the cover design will be kept as a secret until the day of the official album release.

Taner Tuna to Subscribe Contract

Mark's plans were delayed again, when Taner Tuna, the guitar player for "Blue Wizards", cancelled the rehearsal date at the MPMUSIC studio that had been set for June 17th. This meant that the recordings for "Blue Wizards" couldn't be completed until the end of that week. But then things improved: Mark met Taner on June 22nd at Taner's house for a sound check and contract subscription. Mark said the contract talks were comparably easy, and he expected brilliant recording results, as Taner had some good ideas about which guitar and which sound to use for which part: It turned out that at least 3 guitars were going to be used and 32 tape tracks were going to be needed for all the recordings. Another sound check and final talk took place on June 25th. The final recording day will now be on July 13th, and Mark hopes to finish the song by the end of July.

Sarah de Costobadie to Take On Lyrics Supervision

Mark is very happy these days, after Sarah de Costobadie, from the U.K., had said yes when Mark had asked her to help him with the lyrics and all the other written material of the CD cover and booklet. Mark had met Sarah on Lanzarote during their holidays, and he had played the "Blue Wizards" and "There's No-one..." songs to Sarah. She'd said the words were excellent. The rest of the material will be supervised by Sarah as well.

Backnang Starts at 3pm

The Backnang competition starts 30 minutes later than published in the last MPMUSIC news. So, for those who would like to come, here is the exact date and time:

Mark Pwllheli & Judit Saròn: There's No-one Who Can Save My Life
at the Buergerhaus Backnang on Sunday, June 14th, 1998 at 3:00 pm

Mark and Judit will perform at the very end of the programme, as I mentioned last time. They will be number 36 of 40, so you can expect them to appear on stage around 6 pm. The end of the whole event is expected to be at 6:30 pm.

Contracts Subscribed after Hours of Negotiations

After a series of talks on the details of the contracts for "Blue Wizards", the scheduled subscription meeting on May 22nd had to be postponed, after Andreas had expressed his dissatisfaction with the MPMUSIC proposals. MPMUSIC had claimed exclusive publishing rights, yet had granted free usage of the material for non-commercial use; all royalties for copyright ownership had been granted as well. Yet Andreas wanted more: He claimed free usage of the material for commercial use too, despite not being an owner of a publishing house. This starkly contrasted with usual contracts in this industry, and Mark was rather pessimistic about finding a way out. When he realized that Andreas wouldn't sign a contract not allowing commercial use, he was already thinking of immediately stopping all studio work on the song and just dropping it from the album list. As a last effort, he talked to Andreas again, and finally they found a compromise; Andreas - in case he founds a publishing house one day - will share exclusive publishing rights with MPMUSIC, yet guaranteeing strict separation from all MPMUSIC material and not allowing use for third parties. So the two met again on Tuesday, May 26th, after hours of exhausting negotiations, and subscribed the contracts. The papers are four pages of narrow-printed lines of text, and everything had to be checked precisely - we were all glad when things had been done and opened a bottle of champagne that night...

When it was clear that a solution would be found, Mark immediately continued studio work. Judit came to sing for a second time on Sunday, May 24th, so only Mark's voice and the guitar was still to be recorded. Taner Tuna, a professional guitar player from Turkey, will visit the MPMUSIC studio on June 17th for a recording session.

"There's No-one..." classified as a Concert Song by the GEMA

At the end of October 1997, MPMUSIC had applied for higher GEMA royalties for "There's No-one Who Can Save My Life". The GEMA classification gives 12 credit points for rock and pop songs by default in case of public performance, yet can allow higher credits if the work is of higher composing quality. Credits can be 24, 48 and 96. So, "There's No-one Who Can Save My Life" originally had 12 credit points by default, but Mark said he believed that the song was of higher quality than an average pop or rock song, so he had applied to the GEMA for the highest rank of 96 credits last autumn. Now, after more than six months, the GEMA committee eventually judged on the application and finally classified the work as a Concert Song with 24 credit points. "This is not what I originally wanted", Mark said, "but it is double the royalties than the default value and shows that the GEMA committee partly shares my own appraisal - I'm very happy with the decision".

Backnang Song Contest 98

Mark surprised me by telling me that he and Judit had taken part at the non-public Backnang contest a week ago, and they passed! Mark said they had taken part there because the contest is at a higher quality level than all the other contests in the Stuttgart area and also supports contributions with own compositions. So today I can invite you for

Mark Pwllheli & Judit Saròn: There's No-one Who Can Save My Life
at the Buergerhaus Backnang on Sunday, June 14th, 1998 at 2:30pm

Mark and Judit will perform at the very end of the programme. This was a choice taken by Mark as he will return from his two weeks' summer holidays on the Canaries that very afternoon. He will be picked up at Stuttgart airport and be taken directly to Backnang. Let's hope the plane will be on time and the motorways won't be too busy that afternoon!

Cover Photo Sessions to be Successful

After some time of bad luck concerning the weather during March and April, the cover photo session eventually took place on Friday, May 1st. The weather was just fine for the event. It was not too cold and not too sunny. After an outfit selection and make-up session of more than one hour, Manolya was satisfied with her work, and Benno started shooting. About 150 photos were taken. One week later, on Monday, May 11th, the crew met again for a supervision of the material. Mark was carried away with the results. It couldn't have worked out better, as he said. Judit also liked the photos. Around 30 photos were selected for the cover design but only a handful will finally be seen on the cover and in the booklet.

Recording Sessions and Contract Talks Continued

On Wednesday, April 29th, another exciting event took place at the MPMUSIC studio: Dietmar Schwuchow popped in with his saxophone for a sound check. The recordings went more easily than expected, so that the sound check turned out to be the final take after all. Mark said the recording results were much better than expected.

While the contract talks with Dietmar went quite easily, the talks with Andreas Gallas, who is the co-writer of "Blue Wizards", turned out to be more difficult than expected. Andreas required publishing rights that stood in contrast with MPMUSIC contract rights, and a result is still not fixed. Mark and Andreas last met on Tuesday, May 12th, but the talks were postponed as the contracts had to be modified. Mark hopes to find a solution, but: "If no satisfying result can be reached for both sides, we won't be able to publish the song on the album", Mark said. "I won't have the song on the CD unless contracts with all people involved are fixed". The next meeting with Andreas will be on May 22nd. Mark hopes to get things done then, as hours of studio work have already been spent on the song. Judit's part will be recorded on Sunday, May 17th, so that only Mark's voice and the electric guitar is needed to complete the song. It is still not clear who will play the guitar but, as Mark said, a decision will be made after the contracts are fixed.

CD Publishing Date Still Planned for Late Summer

Mark is still optimistic about the scheduled publishing date of the CD in late September. There are only some minor gaps to be filled for the 3 songs taken from the Summernight Opera. "The playback is nearly complete, and only some lines of lyrics must still be written. I'll get it done during my holidays and finish all that in June", Mark said. "The last song can then be produced in July and August, so that I hope to be in time with the project. I hope to launch marketing in October, hopefully with some live events such as the Modenschau in the Stadthalle Nuertingen on October 17th". I'll inform you about forthcoming things...

One More Song Included in the New Album

Latest news on the CD project: There will be six instead of five songs on the new album! As Mark told me, he recently overheard an old tape from 1988 with some songs he had recorded with his then guitar player Andreas Gallas. He instantly had the idea to include one of those songs which he found would fit perfectly into the material of the album. Two weeks ago, he met Andreas for talks on the proceedings - they agreed on splitting the rights to the song so that Andreas will hold the rights on the music and Mark will hold the rights to the words of the song (they actually had worked on both the music and the words together in 1988, but this decision makes GEMA clearings easier and reflects the real priorities). Andreas will also play the electric guitar parts as he did ten years ago. Additionally, there are plans to use another natural instrument in this song: A saxophone, likely to be played by Dr. Dietmar Schwuchow. Contract talks as well as sound checks with both artists will take place during the next few weeks. Despite this additional task Mark is planning to hold the issue date of the album which is scheduled for early autumn '98.

Backnang '98 Song Contest

In spite of all the last year's experiences, Mark and Judit will again take part in a song contest this year. They originally had decided not to take part in open air events (of the funfair type) again as they felt their material was not fitting into the atmosphere and concurrent contributions. On the other hand, the Backnang Song Contest was the only one with higher than average quality, both of the jury and of the co-artists. So they decided not to take part in any of the last year's contests, the only exception being the Backnang Contest. If they pass the first (non-public) selection, I will tell you the date of their public stage appearance which will be in mid June (most likely to be on Sunday, June 14th).

Photo Session Postponed

Due to the cold and rainy weather during most of the last weeks, all scheduled photo session dates for the cover photos of the new album had to be cancelled and postponed until the end of April. The session was planned as an outdoor event, to be done with a slightly cloudy yet not rainy sky for best light, and temperatures above 15 centigrade so that Judit would not catch a cold :). This was a pity, as Mark said, as Mark and Judit had prepared themselves by attending the hairdressers' and the beauticians' before the first date, but on the other hand this gave Mark some additional time to reduce from 11st. 2 lbs after tons of crisps and chips during winter, down to 10 st. 8 lbs for the summer season :)) .

MPMU to Cooperate with R-TV

After a one hour talk this morning with marketing head Bernd Gehrung from the local TV station R-TV, Mark Pwllheli Music is going to cooperate with R-TV to promote the release of the forthcoming CD. R-TV will take and broadcast a short report on the project next autumn. Production will start in summer, and also an advertising spot is planned to be produced. Bernd Gehrung also gave some valuable hints for further marketing efforts.

MPMUSIC to Hold ISMN Codes

All scores going to be published by MPMUSIC will be labelled with an ISMN code (International Standard Music Number). MPMUSIC recently received their own ISMN code which will be used for their scores, thus allowing ordering scores at all music houses globally. A list of all MPMUSIC scores available will be published with the CD release.

Recording Sessions to Go on

Mark is optimistic about the time schedule for the CD project. The playback production of 3 further songs is in progress and getting on quite well, and a fourth song is in preparation. The cover photos are going to be taken in mid March, aiming at July for finishing both the cover design and the recording process.

CD Project to be Launched

After a series of talks during the last few months, the CD project is now ready for take off. The album will be a collection of duets of Mark and Judit, somehow musical-styled yet still pop and a little rock music.

Cooperation contracts with the Modelagentur Charisma and BM-Werbung were signed recently. Manolya Mutlu, from Charisma, will be responsible for make-up and outfit design. Photography and cover design will be made by Benno Mueller from BM-Werbung.

The title and exact track listing of the new album are still not fixed, but as far as Mark told me there will be 4 to 5 tracks on the CD with an overall running time of about 12-15 minutes. The CD will still have album characteristics, including a booklet and inlay.

Premastering (the last technical step before series production) will be made by Carsten Collenbusch at MusicARTelier, Bonn.

The cover photography session is planned for March, and I had the chance to listen to two new tracks which are being recorded these days - they are excellent!

Scores Available

The scores of all the tracks of the new album will be available with the album release. The scores are DIN-A-4 sized, off-the-record, with guitar chords, and in a colour-printed cover. Prices are still not fixed but will be published together with the CD release.

Homepage Designer Wanted

The internet will be one of several market places for Mark Pwllheli Music products. Therefore, Mark is planning to open a MPMUSIC-Homepage together with the CD release. The homepage will inform about MPMUSIC products (including sound samples, ordering capability), MPMUSIC activities, and give some background information on the company. The task for the designer is continuous, as the page must be regularly updated, and questions and orders must be processed. We are still looking for someone who can do the job. So if you know someone able and willing to work with us, please feel free to contact me.

Live Acts in Autumn 98

Live activities are postponed until the release date of the new album, as Mark said. The crew want to concentrate on the studio work now, and will be back on stage in autumn, presenting the new album in several live performances. We will keep you informed on forthcoming activities.

Ole Seelenmeyer Calling

Last night I was rather surprised when Mark told me he was called by the "Bundesvorsitzender des Deutschen Rock- und Popmusikerverbands" Ole Seelenmeyer the day before. Mark had decided to send them a demo CD with "There's No-one Who Can Save My Life" for an unofficial revision some weeks ago, now the chairman himself was responding. "Composition, arrangement, words and music are highly above average", he said. "I know what I am talking about, as I know hundreds of bands and composers from my daily work. I always wanted to be able to do what you do, but I never could. Get on with your work, you can make it!". Mark was very happy about this statement. Ole gave Mark some hints about how to go on and promote the work, so I am really curious about what will happen next (I am not yet allowed to tell you details, though, as these are still a secret).
